Mother’s are so special, yet so different. In my life I am fortunate to have my Grandmother and my Mother still in my life and they are so different from each other. My Grandmother is quite extravagant, my Mother takes care of everyone, even if you did not ask her too and then there is me, the career Mother, who values every second I get to spend with my children and family.
So on Mother’s Day, I leave the decisions for the gifts to my children and what an experience. Each year they choose to get these two important ladies chocolate, with the aim of enjoying the chocolate with them.
But this year, I have decided to allow my children to be creative and come up with gift ideas that needs minimum purchases. I also involved my friends and other family members in the brainstorming process for ideas, which any Mother, Grandmother or Great Grandmother, would appreciate.
Hope you can use one or more idea to make the special lady in your life, see just how much you truly appreciate her.
Make a Recipe File
Take your Mother’s old recipe’s, photocopy them and file them neatly in different sections in a file. The kids can draw on the cover of each section and the file can be nicely decorated.
Make Your Own Gift Basket with Mum’s Favourites
Buy an inexpensive basket and fill it with her favourite chocolates, candies, and homemade treats. You can also fill the basket with toiletry products instead.
A lovely gift for the Mum that loves to read. Get your Mum a subscription to one of her favourite magazines.
Any Mother would value some Me-Time. So offer to take over the household chores for a few hours and send your mother to do whatever she chooses too.
Make Body and Bath Gifts
There are tons of incredible recipes for soaps, foot scrubs and lip glosses that are pretty easy to make. Mum will feel spoiled and appreciated by your effort.
Gambling for Mother
Give your mom a deposit in the online casino. Such a gift is suitable for moms who like to have fun and try their luck. As shown by reviews on the best online casinos, the most reliable guide in this area is the site “Casinoreview-online“. It will help make the right choice, so that your mother is very pleased.
Breakfast in Bed
This was our favourite thing to do on Mother’s day as kids. Planning the secret breakfast in bed for our Mother and each one played a vital role in making sure each part of this breakfast was perfect.
Watch a Movie
Rent a movie mum would love to watch. Purchase the snacks and ensure that she has the best movie’s experience.
Let the kids go wild with artwork. Choose the best out of the lot and frame it for Mum and/or Grandma to enjoy.
Spend the Day Together
Any Mother would value spending time with her children and love ones. So even if there is no gift and no outing, what most Mother’s will embrace is the time you give them and this is priceless.
I have noticed that people visiting our Facebook page noted that ‘Debt is Evil’ and that one should rather do things cash. One person noted: ‘buying food and clothing on account should be illegal.’ My first thoughts on the matter were WoW! Either I am doing something wrong or these individuals live in a perfect world, which I and millions of South African’s do not form part of.
Personally, I feel debt, managed efficiently, could assist you in achieving your dreams quicker. The secret is to remain in control and to be disciplined at all times. Debt should be used to assist with tangible things. Don’t waste the money you borrow. Do the research regarding the credit institution, interest rate the repayment process, etc. Don’t do what so many South African’s do…sign the credit agreement, because you just want the money and later you struggle to keep up with the high-interest rates.
Each person needs to accumulate some form of debt some time in their life and unless you inherit property, rent property for the rest of your life or you fortunate enough to buy property cash, we all need to get that bond from the bank.
Now in order to get the bank bond or the vehicle finance approval, you would need to have a credit history to prove that you are able to manage your debt and stick to your commitments. Ensure that you have done your research prior to your application because applying by a number of credit providers have a negative effect on your credit status.
Most people consider opening store accounts but in all honesty, a small facility credit card, gives you better access to finance. Find a bank that provides the lowest interest rate. A credit card gives you access to purchase anywhere and is not linked to an individual store. Credit cards can be used locally and internationally and if you plan to travel you are able to use your credit card to book flights, book accommodation, rent vehicles and do shopping abroad.
The secret of a credit card is being able to repay the used amount in full at the end of the month, taking into account the admin and bank fees. If you have excess money at the end of the month, transfer it into your credit card and you will be awarded interest on the credit amount on your credit card.
We all have emergencies in life that need’s your immediate attention such as death or sudden home damages such as plumbing, etc. and the credit card is the safest credit line you could fall back on.
But just as this credit line could be the best thing for your financial wellbeing it could also be your biggest evil. So if you do not have the financial discipline or if you are a spendthrift, stay clear of the credit card or any other credit facility. People who purchase unnecessary items on their credit card or use the credit card to substitute or upgrade their lifestyle, normally find themselves in a financial mess and if you facing that challenge then we advise you stop using your credit card immediately before it spirals out of control.
Just remember if you not able to pay the full installment on the credit card contact your financial institution and make payment arrangements. Do not hide away or ignore the calls, thinking the situation will improve somehow. We recommend that you communicate to the credit providers. Remember the financial institution need you more than you need them as it costs any company more money to find a new client than to retain one.
As we are fast approaching the Easter Holiday’s, we may start with our planning for the much needed get away and therefore March 2017 salary might at some or other way need to be stretched to cover the additional expenses.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying family time.
Firstly and as previously mentioned the first and most important step to be taken is performing a budget for March 2017. It is important to determine how much additional funds will be available for the Easter holidays. Without a budget this could lead to an uncomfortable financial position end of April 2017.
Once the amount is determined, look at what activities your family would be interested in doing.
We trust that such initiative will also be available where you reside or places you will be visiting.
With a quick google search I found 15 activities to do that costs maximum R50.00 per person. For our fellow Capetonians and those visiting our shores, which we know do not love sitting at home, hereunder is the link. http://www.capetownmagazine.com/free-and-cheap-things-in-cape-town-kids
For an example, once again do research on these programmes.
Pick N Pay smarter shopper members can benefit the following ways:
Primi Piatti – Convert R60.00 points and get a voucher of R120.00
Intercape – Convert R50.00 points and get a voucher of R100.00
For Capetonians – Convert R68.00 points and get a voucher of R179.00 (Full Adventurer ticket)
We know that during holiday seasons, we enjoy dining out or enjoying a nice cold beverage. Be smart about this spending as eating out is an expensive activity. Once again do research and find out which restaurants have specials, on what days, especially for the kids meals.
There are great deals such as at Panaroti’s where kids eat for free on Sundays.
The above are all good and well, but the starting point is the budget and then researching what you can do and at the same time save money.
If the Budget is extremely tight and no funds are available – consider signing of free on either showmax (14 days) or Netflix (30 days) where you can stream a wide range of movies and series.
The Starting Point should always be the budget to determine the amount available for spend.
Thereafter planning and researching how best to schedule your activities which would entertain your family for the day.
At best, do not enter into further debt even to support your activities and at all costs avoid using the credit card for unnecessary local holiday expenses as you will still be paying for it months afterwards.
Lastly, whatever you do decide to do enjoy it.
